Hongseong Gwangcheon Culture Market Selected as Target Site for Ministry of SMEs and Startups 'First Step Foundation Project'
Promoting Five Key Initiatives Including Sanitary Environment Improvements and Market Safety Management
Hongseong County, Chungnam Province, announced on the 25th that Gwangcheon Munhwa Market has been selected as a target for the "First Step Foundation Building" project in the "2025 2nd Traditional Market Revitalization Support Project" hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing a project budget of 220 million KRW.
The First Step Foundation Building Project is promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups as part of its traditional market revitalization support initiative. It aims to lay the groundwork for promising traditional markets to develop into specialized markets and enhance their competitiveness through improvements in the environment and services.
With Gwangcheon Munhwa Market selected for this project, the county plans to focus on five key tasks: ▲improving payment convenience ▲updating price and origin labeling ▲enhancing sanitary conditions ▲strengthening merchant organization capabilities ▲and improving market safety management.
In particular, after successfully implementing the project, the county will strive to continue receiving support for the next stages, such as the "Cultural Tourism Market" project, depending on evaluation results.
Lee Yongrok, Mayor of Hongseong, stated, "I hope that Gwangcheon Munhwa Market, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, can leap forward as a market for the next 100 years through this project," adding, "We will continue to support various public projects and policy development to strengthen the competitiveness of traditional markets, which are the backbone of the local economy."
