Call for Research Proposals Ahead of October Academic Conference
Open Submission of Student Independence Movement Topics
The Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall is launching a research project to shed new light on the historical significance of the student independence movement. The Memorial Hall announced that it will be accepting public applications for participants in the “Student Independence Movement Emerging Research Support Project” from the 25th to April 8th.

View original imageThis project is divided into two categories: “Designated Topics” and “Open Topics.” The designated topics are ▲Current State and Challenges of Gwangju Student Independence Movement Research ▲Research on Domestic Student-led Independence Movement Organizations. For open topics, researchers can freely propose a variety of research subjects related to the student independence movement.
Eligibility is limited to researchers in the humanities and social sciences, both domestic and international, who have obtained a master's or doctoral degree within the past five years. Applicants can download the required documents from the notices section of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall website, complete them, and submit them via email or mail.
Through a review process, three research projects will be selected from each category, for a total of six. Each selected project will receive a research grant of 3 million KRW. The research results will be presented at the “96th Anniversary Student Independence Movement Memorial Academic Conference” scheduled for this October.
Director Kim Yongil stated, “Through this project, I hope that the spirit and history of the student independence movement will be studied more systematically and passed down more profoundly to future generations,” adding, “We look forward to the active interest and participation of researchers.”
