View original imageThe city of Gwangju issued a preliminary fine dust reduction measure from 6 a.m. on the 24th to 6 a.m. on the 25th. In response, the city operated a comprehensive fine dust response situation room, sent cooperation request messages regarding the adjustment of operating hours for public facilities and government-funded construction sites, and implemented an alternate-day work schedule for administrative and public institutions.
The preliminary reduction measure is a proactive action taken by the public sector to reduce fine dust in advance when the forecast two days prior predicts high concentrations of fine dust and the issuance criteria are met. This measure is issued if either the daily average fine dust concentration is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ tomorrow (the 25th) and the day after tomorrow (the 26th), or if the forecast for the day after tomorrow is 'very bad.'
To prevent harm to citizens, the city posted a preliminary reduction measure banner on the Gwangju city website and provided guidance to vulnerable groups?including daycare centers, facilities for the disabled, and nursing homes for the elderly?on wearing masks and refraining from outdoor activities.
Additionally, on this day, the city launched a campaign for the alternate-day work schedule in administrative and public institutions and informed employees about its implementation. In cooperation with district offices, the city strengthened road cleaning on key routes and intensified crackdowns on illegal burning and compliance with reduction measures at government-funded construction sites.
Na Byungchun, Director of the Climate and Air Policy Division, stated, "Citizen participation is the most important factor in reducing fine dust," and urged, "Please participate in everyday efforts to reduce fine dust, such as using public transportation, avoiding idling, and turning off unnecessary electricity."
