The amendment aims to contribute to creating a favorable environment for childbirth.
The main content allows male public officials to take special leave when their spouses undergo infertility treatment procedures. Under the current ordinance, female public officials are eligible for 2 to 4 days of "infertility treatment leave" in cases such as undergoing artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization with frozen embryos, or egg retrieval for in vitro fertilization. The amendment will now allow male public officials whose spouses are undergoing the same procedures to receive the same leave.
Council Member Kim stated, "Population issues require policies that have a tangible impact," and added, "With the implementation of the companion leave system for public officials in infertile couples, I will strive to propose birth encouragement policies that raise awareness of male infertility treatment and meet the expectations of local residents."
