Chungnam Police Launch Spring Traffic Fatality Prevention Safety Measures
Strengthened Crackdown on Drunk Driving Near Tourist Attractions
Focus on Cargo Truck Signal Violations and Other Key Offenses
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 24th that it will implement comprehensive safety measures until May to prevent traffic fatalities in the spring season.
During this period, the police will strengthen crackdowns on drunk driving around tourist attractions and target risk factors such as signal violations by cargo trucks and centerline violations. They will also enforce regulations against violations by motorcycle clubs and jaywalking by pedestrians.
In particular, the police plan to conduct intensive crackdowns on helmet non-compliance using camcorders.
According to the police, from April to May last year, there were 38 traffic fatalities in the province, an increase of 72.7% (16 cases) compared to the same period the previous year.
A police official said, "We will continue to raise drivers' awareness through traffic safety campaigns and banners, and will also carry out publicity activities using traffic broadcast electronic displays."
