Gwangju Science Center Launches ESG Council with Honam Regional Science Centers
Public Institutions Stepping Up Amid Climate Crisis
"The First Step Toward Sustainable Coexistence"
The National Gwangju Science Museum has joined hands with science museums in the Honam region. Science museums are evolving beyond spaces that simply exhibit science, emerging as public institutions that address the climate crisis and sustainability.
According to the Gwangju Science Museum on the 24th, a launch ceremony was recently held for the 'Honam Region Science Museum ESG Regional Council,' where science museums in the Honam region jointly declared a path of mutual growth focused on Environment (E), Social (S), and transparent Governance (G). ESG now demands 'responsibility' not only from companies but also from science museums.
The launch of this council is expected to mark a turning point as regional science museums fully embrace ESG management. Going forward, they have set practical tasks such as ▲creating and spreading an eco-friendly culture ▲realizing social value ▲and ensuring transparent operations. Their plan is to incorporate these principles throughout the operation of each museum to drive positive change in the local community.
Director Lee Jeonggu emphasized, "The National Gwangju Science Museum will take the lead in realizing the values of mutual growth and cooperation," adding, "We will drive the co-prosperity and sustainable development of regional science museums."
With the launch of this council, the Gwangju Science Museum also held an ESG management innovation declaration ceremony and a commitment event. The National Gwangju Science Museum plans to accelerate ESG management to become a 'responsible science museum' in the future.
