Seven Types of Coverage for Bicycle Accidents While Riding or Walking
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will operate the "Geumcheon Resident Safe Bicycle Insurance" in 2025 to ensure the safe use of bicycles for its residents.
The "Resident Safe Bicycle Insurance" is a system designed to reduce the financial burden caused by bicycle accidents and to support residents in using bicycles more safely.
All residents registered in Geumcheon-gu (including registered foreigners) can automatically receive benefits without any separate subscription procedures.
Covered accidents include those occurring while directly riding a bicycle, accidents while riding as a passenger on the back seat without driving the bicycle, and collisions with bicycles while walking. Accidents occurring not only in Geumcheon-gu but also in other regions are covered.
The main coverage includes ▲ 10 million KRW for death due to bicycle accidents ▲ permanent disability (paid according to the degree of disability) ▲ diagnosis benefit (for diagnoses of 4 weeks or more) ▲ hospitalization consolation money (for hospital stays of 6 days or more) ▲ fines ▲ attorney fees ▲ traffic accident handling support fund, among others. The insurance consists of a total of seven items covering various bicycle-related accidents, with coverage ranging from 200,000 KRW to a maximum of 30 million KRW depending on the type of accident.
The bicycle insurance is valid for one year from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026. For accidents occurring during the coverage period, claims can be made directly to DB Insurance within three years from the date of the accident by preparing the required supporting documents.
