Yangju Selected for Gyeonggi-do Cultural Autonomy Project for Four Consecutive Years
Focusing on Expanding People-Centered Cultural Autonomy
Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) has recently achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the 'Gyeonggi-do Cultural Autonomy Activation Contest Project' for four consecutive years, establishing itself as a 'leading city in cultural autonomy.'
According to Yangju City on the 21st, only two cities/counties in the province, including Yangju and Icheon, have participated in the 'Gyeonggi-do Cultural Autonomy Activation Project' for four consecutive years. It is known that the city secured 30 million KRW in provincial funding through this contest.
This year, the city's '2025 Gyeonggi-do Cultural Autonomy Activation Project' aims to create a 'people-centered cultural city Yangju' with a total budget of 60 million KRW. The project plans to collaborate with the Korea Federation of Artistic & Cultural Organizations Yangju Branch, the lead organization, to promote three types of projects: strengthening cultural autonomy capabilities, activating cultural autonomy, and spreading cultural autonomy.
The main project contents include training local cultural mediators, building a network to share the mid- to long-term vision of cultural autonomy, and discovering and supporting citizen-led cultural activities.
In particular, the city plans to prepare for Culture City 3.0, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, by forming a consensus with citizens, including sharing the '2025-2029 Yangju City Cultural Autonomy Basic Plan' established last February.
A Yangju City official said, "This year marks the fourth year of cultural autonomy, and we plan to focus on spreading cultural autonomy centered on cultural mediators." He added, "We will create a cultural city with Yangju's unique characteristics as the main home of northern Gyeonggi together with our citizens."
