Individuals Alone Are Net Buyers
Foreigners and Institutions Show Selling Pressure in Both KOSPI and KOSDAQ
On the morning of the 20th, both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets opened with slight gains. This appears to be influenced by improved sentiment following a rise of around 1% in major U.S. stock indices overnight.
On this day, the KOSPI opened at 2,648.16, up 0.74% from the previous day. As of 9:19 a.m., it was at 2,634.27.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 23 billion KRW and 8.7 billion KRW respectively. Individuals were net buyers of 28.5 billion KRW.
Almost all sectors showed slight gains. The electric and gas sector had the largest increase at 0.76%, followed by insurance (0.63%), general services (0.61%), and food and tobacco (0.59%). Transportation equipment and parts (-1.43%) and textiles and apparel (-0.49%) declined.
Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, KB Financial showed the largest gain at 1.3%, followed by SK Hynix (1.2%), Samsung Electronics (0.8%), and LG Energy Solution (0.4%). Samsung Biologics, Hyundai Motor, and NAVER maintained the same stock prices as the previous day. Hanwha Aerospace (-2.9%), Kia (-1.5%), and Celltrion (-0.5%) declined.
The KOSDAQ also opened at 743.06, up 0.64% from the previous day.
Similarly, foreigners and institutions showed selling pressure. Foreigners were net sellers of 10.9 billion KRW, and institutions sold 46.5 billion KRW. Only individuals recorded net purchases of 62.6 billion KRW.
Sectors that rose included machinery and equipment (1.06%), finance (0.97%), chemicals (0.79%), and distribution (0.61%), while transportation equipment and parts (-0.73%) and metals (-0.51%) declined. Most sectors moved within a narrow range.

Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, Rainbow Robotics had the largest gain at 2.4%, followed by Classys (1.2%), EcoPro (1.0%), Pharma Research (0.4%), and EcoPro BM (0.2%). HLB (-2.6%), Samchundang Pharm (-0.8%), Ligand Chem Bio (-0.4%), Alteogen (-0.2%), and Hugel (-0.1%) declined.
