Chosun University Medical School Leave of Absence Application Rejected... 'Expulsion if Not Returning'
Out of 879 Enrolled Students, 689 Are on Leave of Absence
The College of Medicine at Chosun University has sent a letter urging students, who are currently on a collective leave of absence due to conflicts between the medical community and the government, to return to classes, warning that those who do not return may face expulsion.
According to Chosun University on the 19th, the medical school sent a letter on the 17th urging students to resume classes. From that day, any leave of absence applications not recognized as special cases, such as military enlistment, will be rejected. As of that date, out of a total of 879 enrolled students at Chosun University College of Medicine, 189 are currently attending, while 689 are on leave.
The letter included the following points: ▲ The Korean Association of Medical Colleges (KAMC) has requested a 2026 admission quota of 3,058 ▲ An agreement between the Ministry of Education and the presidents of 40 universities with medical schools nationwide ▲ Students returning after one-quarter of the semester (March 28) will inevitably be subject to university regulations ▲ The admission quota for the 2027 academic year will be determined by the Medical Workforce Estimation Committee.
Chosun University College of Medicine has been conducting its curriculum as usual since the 4th and is allowing students to participate in classes immediately upon their return.
Kim Choonseong, President of Chosun University, stated, "I hope students will return to class within the deadline and diligently pursue their studies while making their demands known," adding, "If the deadline passes, the university will enforce its academic regulations."
