Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Constitutional Amendment Needed for Federal-Level Decentralization"
Lee Jae-jun, the mayor of Suwon, has called for a constitutional amendment to achieve federal-level local decentralization.
On the 18th, Mayor Lee Jae-jun urged at the ‘Suwon City Local Autonomy Council 2025 1st Regular Meeting’ held in the city hall's medium conference room, "There have been ongoing discussions about constitutional amendments recently," and added, "As the Local Autonomy Council has been leading local decentralization in the Republic of Korea, please actively express your opinions to ensure that a constitutional amendment for local decentralization is realized."
He continued, "This year marks the 30th anniversary of elected local governments, and it is necessary to discuss what ‘true local decentralization’ means," and said, "I ask the Suwon City Local Autonomy Council to engage in in-depth discussions and take the lead in realizing federal-level local decentralization."
