Jungnang-gu Introduces Nation's First 'Visible and Audible Heavy Rain Warning System'
Warning Messages and Alert Sounds Sent via Electronic Display Board During Heavy Rain Risk Situations... Real-Time Notifications
Functions as a GPS Clock During Normal Times... Enhanced Convenience for Residents
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has introduced the nation’s first customized “Visible and Audible Heavy Rain Warning and Alert System” for flood-vulnerable households, providing tailored notification services during disaster situations.
Currently, disaster safety messages provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety inform citizens of various disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, heavy rain, and missing persons via smartphone texts. However, flood-vulnerable households receive excessive information unrelated to heavy rain, which lowers their awareness of urgent risks. Additionally, it is difficult to check messages during early morning hours, limiting prompt response.
To address this, the district has installed a “heavy rain dedicated warning and alert system” electronic display board within flood-vulnerable households. When a risk situation occurs, the Jungnang-gu Flood and Water Damage Countermeasures Situation Room will send warning messages and alert sounds through the display board to notify residents of danger in real time. This supports flood-vulnerable households in recognizing emergency situations immediately without needing to check smartphone messages or broadcasts.
The display board is a customized system that operates only during heavy rain risk situations, directly transmitting warning messages and alert sounds to households at risk of flooding to disseminate real-time heavy rain information. Under normal conditions, the display board will function as a GPS clock providing information such as time and temperature, enhancing residents’ adaptation and utilization of the system.
The district plans to pilot this system by the end of April targeting flood-vulnerable households where socially vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children reside, and will gradually expand the service coverage.
