K-IDEA VALLEY: Advancing Research, Technology Support, and Startup Activation
Gumi University in North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 18th that all seven of its projects were selected for the ‘2025 Gyeongsangbuk-do Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) Project,’ securing the highest number of projects in the region.
With this selection, Gumi University will receive a total of 35 billion KRW (7 billion KRW annually) in funding over the next five years. The university plans to use this support to foster industry-specific talent tailored to the region through collaboration with local industries and governments, further enhancing its competitiveness.
Gumi University will focus on building the ‘G-BELT Platform’ to drive customized education and research innovation in connection with local industries. The selected projects are divided into three initiatives: K-IDEA VALLEY, K-IVY, and K-LEARNING.
Two projects were chosen, including the Regional Growth Innovation LAB and ‘Training Advanced Field-oriented Talent.’ Through these, the university will operate various research labs, such as the Semiconductor and Defense Industry Innovation LAB, and actively support technology assistance and startups. The core goal is to nurture practical talent who will settle and work in the region.
Three universities in the Gumi area will collaborate on the ‘MEGAversity’ project to educate international students and help local companies meet their workforce needs.
Additionally, the university was selected for the ‘Fostering Specialized Universities’ project, which aims to train professionals in food and menu development, smart farm agricultural technology, and food manufacturing automation, in connection with the food tech specialized industry.
Through the project to establish a lifelong vocational education system, the university will expand non-degree programs and open DX transformation and women’s settlement-specialized courses.
Furthermore, the ‘Realizing Social Value’ project will train local care professionals such as caregivers and child sitters, while the ‘Solving Local Issues’ project will create an urban youth art campus to revitalize the local arts and culture scene.
Gumi University plans to strengthen the training of customized talent linked to local industries and expand education based on corporate demand through this initiative.
Through these efforts, the university aims to establish itself as a key institution in western North Gyeongsang Province, build a collaborative network among universities, businesses, and local governments, prevent youth outflow, increase settlement rates, and create a regional innovation ecosystem centered on advanced industries.
President Lee Seunghwan stated, “Since Gumi University has been selected for the most projects in the region, we will actively pursue these initiatives for regional industrial development and talent cultivation,” adding, “We will further strengthen industry-academia cooperation centered on the G-BELT Platform and leap forward as a university leading regional innovation.”
