Promoting Advancement in Neuro-Oncology Treatment Through Research and Education
Professor Kim Youngjun from the Department of Neurosurgery at Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University, was recently elected as the 8th president of the Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology at the society's Spring Academic Conference and General Assembly. His term will last for two years, from April 2025 to March 2027.

View original imageThe Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology, established in 2011, is the only multidisciplinary academic society in Korea specializing in neuro-oncology. It brings together approximately 550 experts from various fields, including neurosurgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, radiology, pediatric oncology, neurology, palliative medicine, and basic research.
The Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology has been leading the advancement of neuro-oncology treatment in Korea by collaborating with the National Research Foundation of Korea on various national research projects, providing education and certification for neuro-oncology specialists, and publishing the latest Korean guidelines for neuro-oncology care. Notably, in 2022, the society hosted the World Federation of Neuro-Oncology Societies meeting in Seoul, further establishing itself as Korea's representative society in the field on the international stage.
President-elect Kim stated, "I will do my best to strengthen the internal operations of the Korean Society for Neuro-Oncology and foster neuro-oncology specialists so that global academic exchanges can become even more active."
Meanwhile, Professor Kim has contributed to the development of the society by serving as vice president, secretary general, chair of the multidisciplinary committee, and secretary of the multidisciplinary committee. He has also been actively involved in various fields, including giving lectures on brain tumor treatment and receiving academic awards. Recognized as a leading brain tumor specialist by Health Chosun, he has published over 100 papers (including SCI-indexed articles) in prestigious domestic and international journals and has performed more than 1,400 brain tumor surgeries.
