The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will engage in technological cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. While promoting joint research and development (R&D), technology transfer, and personnel exchange in advanced technology fields, it plans to expand cooperation among bio startups to support their entry into the global market.
On the 17th (local time), the Ministry announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for technology exchange and cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institute and the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs in Munich, Germany.
Through this MOU, the two organizations will not only promote joint cooperative R&D in advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), bio, and advanced manufacturing to support the global expansion of SMEs and startups, but also collaborate in various forms including technology transfer, personnel exchange, and building cooperative networks.

View original imageSubsequently, the Ministry plans to visit Fraunhofer IML and ISIT, representative demonstration-based research institutes of Fraunhofer, to discuss ways to strengthen partnerships with domestic global innovation zones through advanced technology transfer and joint demonstration R&D in AI logistics transport robots and direct current (DC) product fields.
In addition, to establish a continuous partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute, Daegu City, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Machinery & Materials, and the GRC Council will sign an 'AI Robot Technology Cooperation MOU' with Fraunhofer IML. The Green Energy Research Institute and Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology will also hold a joint workshop with Fraunhofer ISIT.
Furthermore, they will visit BioM in the Bavaria region, where pharmaceutical and bio startups, research institutions, and investors gather to create a global bio innovation ecosystem, to discuss cooperation plans such as open innovation and technology exchange between bio startups of both countries and global joint market entry. This will serve as a benchmark when establishing domestic bio global innovation zones and K-Bio Lab Hubs in the future.
