Gyeonggi-do Issues 'Emergency Level 1' Due to Heavy Snow Warning... 9 PM on the 17th
Gyeonggi Province will activate Emergency Level 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at 9 PM on the 17th in response to the preliminary heavy snow warning.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, previously requested in an official document ▲ the operation of a snow removal support system between cities and counties and management of emergency contact networks for contractors ▲ safety management including pre-inspection and control of vulnerable areas and facilities due to ground weakening during the thawing period ▲ snow removal work to prepare for road congestion, traffic jams, and pedestrian safety accidents during commuting hours ▲ strengthening road patrols such as pre-application and re-application of snow removal agents on freezing-prone sections and vulnerable time zones where black ice is expected.
Emergency Level 1 will have the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Team Leader as the overall situation management chief, with a total of 16 members from road, traffic, and agriculture sectors working together with cities and counties to take measures against heavy snow and respond promptly.
Since strong snow of up to about 3 cm per hour is expected during peak hours (from early morning on the 18th), Gyeonggi Province plans to proactively monitor weather and road snow accumulation conditions, deploy snow removal materials and equipment in advance, and carry out snow removal work considering traffic congestion due to vehicle movement during commuting hours and pedestrian safety by pre-applying snow removal agents.
Lee Jong-don, Director of Safety Management Office of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will operate a close cooperation system among related organizations for major arterial roads and road boundary sections and conduct thorough snow removal work focusing on vulnerable sections during commuting hours to do our best to ensure the safety of residents."
