An aging steel-frame parking lot in the commercial area of Haan-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be reconstructed into an eight-story parking building.
On the 17th, Gwangmyeong City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the parking building to be constructed at 38-1 Haan-dong. This project aims to improve the parking environment of the existing steel-frame parking lot in the Haan-dong commercial area.

View original imageThe existing steel-frame parking lot here was built in 1992, but due to insufficient internal turning radius, narrow parking spaces, and aging facilities, the need for improvement has been raised.
The city proposed revitalizing the commercial district through parking environment improvement as a pledge of the 8th term of the elected administration. To this end, in July 2023, it signed a construction agency consignment agreement with Gwangmyeong Urban Corporation. After conducting basic and detailed design services in February last year and deciding on reconstruction, the existing parking lot was demolished last month.
The parking building construction will involve an investment of 25 billion KRW. The newly built parking building will have a scale of 6,959 square meters and is scheduled to be completed by August next year. The city explained that after reconstruction, the area will increase by about three times compared to the existing parking lot, which had three floors above ground and a total floor area of 2,148㎡.
The building will also house commercial stores and the offices of Gwangmyeong Urban Corporation. The first floor will be a neighborhood living facility, and floors 2 to 6 will be parking lots. The 7th and 8th floors will accommodate the headquarters of Gwangmyeong Urban Corporation. The city plans to create shared spaces such as plazas outside the building as well.
