[Tomorrow's Weather] Seoul -2°C 'Kkotsem Chuwi'... Snow and Rain in Places
On Monday the 17th, a late-winter cold snap will arrive. Morning low temperatures will range from -5 to 2 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will be between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, about 3 to 5 degrees lower than usual.
Morning temperatures in most parts of the country will fall below 0 degrees Celsius (around -5 degrees in eastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and eastern Jeonbuk), and strong winds will make it feel even colder.
The sky will be mostly cloudy nationwide, but there will be occasional clouds in the Honam region and Jeju Island. Snow or rain will fall until dawn in the Seoul metropolitan area and Jeju Island, in the early morning in northern Chungbuk, and until daytime in the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, the eastern coast and inland of Gyeongbuk, and Gangwon Province. Late at night, snow or rain will begin in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungnam region.
In Incheon and western Gyeonggi, light raindrops less than 0.1 mm or snow less than 0.1 cm may fall until early dawn, and on the western coast of Jeolla Province, similar precipitation is expected until dawn.
From the 16th to the afternoon of the 17th, 10 to 20 cm of snow will fall in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, and 5 to 20 cm in the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk. In particular, some places in the Gangwon mountains may accumulate more than 30 cm of snow.
Expected snowfall amounts are 5 to 15 cm in inland Gangwon, 5 to 10 cm in northern inland Gyeongbuk, 3 to 10 cm in northern Chungbuk, 3 to 8 cm in eastern Gyeonggi, the eastern coast of Gangwon, and northern eastern coast of Gyeongbuk (with some places on the northern eastern coast of Gangwon exceeding 10 cm), 1 to 5 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju Island, and around 1 cm in northwestern inland Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
Expected precipitation amounts are 10 to 40 mm in the mountainous and eastern coastal areas of Gangwon, 5 to 20 mm in inland Gangwon and northern and southern eastern coastal areas of Gyeongbuk, 5 to 10 mm in eastern Gyeonggi, northern Chungbuk, and Jeju Island, and around 5 mm in western Seoul, Incheon, western Gyeonggi, the five western islands, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
From the night of the 17th to the 18th, snow accumulation is expected to be 10 to 20 cm (with some places exceeding 30 cm) in the Gangwon mountains, 5 to 20 cm in the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, 5 to 15 cm on the eastern coast of Gangwon, and 3 to 10 cm in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, the five western islands, inland Gangwon, and Chungbuk.
In eastern Jeonbuk and inland eastern Jeonnam, inland southern Daegu and Gyeongnam, the eastern coast of Gyeongbuk, and inland western Gyeongnam, 3 to 8 cm of snow is forecast. Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, Gwangju, Jeonnam, western Jeonbuk, inland central and eastern Gyeongnam, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island are expected to receive 1 to 5 cm of snow.
Rainfall amounts will be 5 to 30 mm in the mountainous and eastern coastal areas of Gangwon, 5 to 20 mm in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and 5 to 10 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, Chungcheong region, Jeolla region, Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and Jeju Island.
Fine dust levels are expected to be 'good' nationwide as clean west winds flow in. Sea waves will be 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the East Sea coastal waters, and 0.5 to 3.5 meters in the West Sea and South Sea coastal waters.
