Embezzlement of Overtime Allowance... 16 Civil Servants Caught in Mass Crackdown
Police Investigate on Charges Including Falsification of Official Electronic Records
Sixteen public officials from Yeosu City, Jeonnam, are under police investigation on suspicion of unjustly receiving overtime pay.
According to Yeosu City and Yeosu Police Station on the 14th, Mr. A recently filed a police complaint against these individuals on charges including falsification of electronic records. This follows an internal audit in 2022-2023 that uncovered false entries of working hours to claim overtime pay.
Last month, police referred three people to the prosecution on the same charges and are additionally investigating four more individuals. If the charges of falsifying electronic records are confirmed, it is expected to cause a stir as it would be difficult for those involved to retain their public official status.
Mr. A has continuously reported cases of misconduct within the public sector. He has been actively notifying investigative agencies of public sector corruption in the eastern region of Jeonnam, and last month received a presidential commendation at the National Rights and Interests Day ceremony.
