Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Provincial and City Cultural Arts Education Officials Meeting 'Exploring Policies for the Next 20 Years'
On the 14th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the '2025 Metropolitan and Provincial Cultural Arts Education Officials Meeting' at the former Chungnam Provincial Government Welfare Hall to listen to opinions from local cultural arts education sites and discuss future policy directions, the ministry announced that day.
This meeting was held under the theme "20 Years of New Cultural Arts Education" to mark the 20th anniversary of cultural arts education policy. Officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, metropolitan and provincial offices (in charge of cultural arts education), and metropolitan cultural arts education support centers attended to share best practices from regions such as Gangwon, Chungbuk, Jeju, and Incheon, and to promote cooperation between central and local governments.
Gangwon shared its exemplary case of the 'Didimdol Cultural Arts School' project, which consists of a three-stage talent development education course for artists. Chungbuk shared the 'Hello Art Lab,' where artists independently explore research topics linked to the local community.
Jeju introduced cultural arts education programs for socially vulnerable groups who have difficulty accessing cultural arts benefits. Presentations included the 'Visiting Infant Cultural Arts Education in Attached Islands' targeting infants in island areas such as Udo and Chujado, and the 'Disability Arts Festival TURN,' a festival where people with and without disabilities can come together.
Incheon introduced the 'Institutional Cooperation Cultural Arts Education Project,' a joint planning and implementation of cultural arts education programs related to the themes of institutions such as the National Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment and the National Incheon Maritime Museum under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented future policy directions for cultural arts education and also listened to opinions from local officials. The directions for cultural arts education were proposed as ▲ shifting from school-centered to out-of-school living spaces ▲ expanding from vulnerable groups to the lives of the general public ▲ moving from public-centered education to active participation by the private sector. Tasks to realize these included ▲ innovation in school arts education ▲ enhancing accessibility in everyday life ▲ establishing a foundation for cultural arts education ▲ creating new markets for cultural arts education.

Lee Haedon, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "This meeting confirmed the difficulties faced by cultural arts education sites and the need for collaboration between central and local governments," adding, "The Ministry will design regionally friendly policy directions and actively cooperate to increase opportunities for enjoying cultural arts education and improve residents' quality of life."
