Hanam City applied for the contest (July 2024) and was finally selected after on-site inspections and evaluations (March 7, 2025).
The total project cost is expected to be about 6.1 billion KRW, with Hanam City bearing 3.1 billion KRW, KEPCO 1.6 billion KRW, and telecommunications companies 1.4 billion KRW respectively.
Hanam City expects that this project will not only improve the commuting environment for students but also contribute to enhancing the local aesthetics by enabling merchants and citizens near Sinjang Intersection to walk more safely and comfortably.
Meanwhile, the underground cable project in the Sinjang Traditional Market area, selected in 2024, held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 12th and is being actively promoted with the goal of completion by September.
The project section is approximately 410m from GS The Fresh to in front of Bareun Hospital. By removing existing overhead lines and installing underground power facilities (switchgear), power poles and overhead lines will be buried underground to provide a safe and pleasant walking environment, and it is also expected to contribute to revitalizing the traditional market.
Hanam City plans to gradually promote the underground cable project for the remaining sections of the old downtown area, aiming not only to improve the walking environment but also to enhance urban aesthetics. The city will actively participate in the 2026 public contest projects to ensure that citizens can enjoy a more convenient and safe living environment.
