Mayor Choi Kimoon Inspects Construction Site
On the 11th, Choi Kimoon, Mayor of Yeongcheon, visited the construction site of the ‘Shin Sungil Memorial Hall’ currently being built in the Goyeon-dong area of Yeongcheon, where he encouraged the construction workers and checked the progress of the project.
The Shin Sungil Memorial Hall, which is being developed as a local multi-purpose cultural facility, will be built on a 9,946㎡ site and will include a building with a total floor area of 1,151㎡ (two stories above ground) featuring exhibition halls, storage rooms, experience facilities, offices, as well as an outdoor photo zone and parking lot. Construction began in September last year and is progressing smoothly, with completion targeted for around September this year.
An official from Yeongcheon City stated, "We originally planned to complete the project around July this year, but due to a two-month suspension of construction during the past winter, the completion date is expected to be delayed by about two months."
Together with the construction of the building, exhibition design and the production of exhibits to commemorate the late actor Shin Sungil are also underway. The plan is to enhance the quality of the memorial hall by creating exhibition spaces using movies and memorabilia left by Shin Sungil, as well as providing various experience and rest areas for visitors.
Film actor Shin Sungil, who was born in Daegu, moved to Yeongcheon in 2007 and lived in Seongilga, Goejeong-dong, Yeongcheon until he passed away at the age of 81 in November 2018. In his honor, Yeongcheon City has been promoting the construction of the ‘Shin Sungil Memorial Hall’ near Seongilga.
On this day, Mayor Choi Kimoon toured the site, received reports from construction officials on the progress of each stage and major issues, and called for thorough quality control and safety measures. He particularly emphasized that the safety of construction workers is the top priority and instructed that every effort be made to prevent accidents and comply with safety regulations during work.
