The Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation was established in 1995, named after the pen name of the late Kim Mansoo (graduated from Dong-A University Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1956), former Chairman of Dong-A Tire Group. Since 1999, it has awarded over 3.1 billion KRW in scholarships and research grants to 1,358 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty members.
The late Chairman Kim Mansoo, who passed away in October 2023, donated a fund totaling 12.6 billion KRW to his alma mater, and his son, Chairman Kim Sangheon, is continuing his legacy as the foundation's chairman.
This year, research grants were awarded to 14 professors in total, including 10 from Dong-A University such as Professor Kim Munjeong (Department of Philosophy and Biomedical Ethics), and 4 professors from Meiji University (Japan), Pusan National University, Yonsei University, and Chung-Ang University. Each received 5 million KRW, totaling 70 million KRW.
Student scholarships totaling 50.5 million KRW were awarded to 32 students, including Kim Chanju (Department of Police Science), Jung Jaeyeon (Department of Electrical Engineering), and Moon Jihwan (Department of Physical Education).
The annual comprehensive journal 'Cheongchon Nonchong,' which publishes research papers by professors who received research funding, released its 26th edition this year and is distributed to university libraries, government agencies, and research institutions nationwide.
Chairman Kim Sangheon stated, "My late father deeply understood the importance of nurturing talent and generously supported Dong-A University so it could foster the talent required by the nation and society. I, too, will gladly continue to support talent development in accordance with his wishes. I ask the professors who received research funding to contribute to the advancement of academic research in Korea, and I hope the scholarship recipients will take pride and confidence in pioneering their own futures."
Vice President Kang Daesung said, "I sincerely congratulate the professors and students who received research grants and scholarships, and I thank the Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation for supporting future generations every year. I hope the scholarship recipients will strive harder to enhance the honor of their alma mater and grow into talents who contribute to the local community. The university will also do its best to nurture outstanding talent in line with the foundation's vision."
DN Automotive, led by Chairman Kim Sangheon, is Korea's largest automotive anti-vibration parts manufacturer. The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Busan City to invest 440 billion KRW in Busan and build a large-scale automotive battery production plant in the East Busan I-Park Industrial Complex. With this, DN Automotive will significantly expand its battery production capacity by adding the new Busan plant to its existing Ulsan facility, aiming to increase its market share in the automotive battery sector.
Previously, in February last year, its affiliate DN Solutions decided to build a 'Global Unit Advanced Manufacturing Center' in the Busan Gangseo-gu International Industrial Logistics City.
DN Group, founded in 1971 as Dong-A Tire Industry, focuses on manufacturing automotive parts, automotive batteries, and machine tools. In 2023, its total assets exceeded 5 trillion KRW, earning it the designation as a mid-tier conglomerate and ranking 74th among Korean business groups.
