Gyeonggi-do Significantly Expands Infertility Support This Year
Gyeonggi Province will support the cost of freezing reproductive cells such as eggs starting as early as April to alleviate the financial burden on infertile couples.
On the 12th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will provide financial support for the freezing and initial storage (1 year) costs of reproductive cells (sperm and eggs) for residents expected to have permanent infertility due to medical reasons, with up to 300,000 KRW for men and up to 2,000,000 KRW for women.
The support targets residents of Gyeonggi Province aged 20 to 49 who have lived in the province for more than six months and whose income is at or below 180% of the median income (7,079,000 KRW for a two-person household, 10,976,000 KRW for a four-person household).
To support healthy pregnancy and childbirth, Gyeonggi Province will also expand support for essential fertility examinations from once to three times. Essential fertility tests include ovarian function tests for women and detailed sperm morphology tests for men aged 20 to 49. Women can receive up to 130,000 KRW, and men up to 50,000 KRW. Support is provided regardless of marital status or number of children.
Additionally, Gyeonggi Province offers medical expense support ranging from 300,000 to 1,100,000 KRW per procedure for treatments such as in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination through the ‘Infertile Couples Treatment Expense Support’ program. The province also provides up to two rounds per couple, with a maximum of 1,000,000 KRW per round, for frozen egg thawing and fresh embryo in vitro fertilization procedures under the ‘Frozen Egg Thawing Assisted Reproductive Technology Support’ program.
