The Seoul National University Climate Tech Center will develop a "Personal Carbon Finance Index" that measures carbon emissions according to individual consumption patterns based on BC Card's online and offline payment data.
They plan to develop a universal indicator that anyone can easily understand regarding the carbon emissions generated from individuals' daily consumption activities. Through this, they aim to spread public awareness of carbon neutrality.
As the industry's only pseudonymized information integration institution, BC Card will also combine and provide "item" data, which was difficult to verify with existing card payment data alone.
BC Card stated, "We will develop a more sophisticated indicator by reflecting not only carbon emissions per consumption item but also segmented consumption patterns by customer type, improving upon the existing measurement method that simply converts national-level carbon emissions into individual consumption amounts."
Based on the personal carbon finance index, the two organizations plan to discover low-carbon financial products and payment services to encourage public participation in carbon neutrality.
