Yeosu Industrial Complex Refinery Companies Begin 'Major Maintenance Management'... Preventing Chemical Accidents
Special Management Measures for Oil Refining Companies During Major Maintenance Periods
First Inspection Target: GS Caltex
Joint Inspections and "Safe Chemistry on the Way to Work" Campaign to Strengthen Safety Awareness
The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 12th that it will implement special management measures during the major maintenance period for oil refining companies in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex.
The major maintenance period is when plant operations are halted for intensive inspection, maintenance, and replacement of consumables. As the risk of chemical accidents increases during this time, proactive response is necessary.
The first inspection target is GS Caltex Co., Ltd. During this year's first half, a large-scale maintenance is scheduled, with up to 3,000 workers to be mobilized per day, making it a priority for management. Accordingly, the Environmental Office, together with the Gwangju Employment and Labor Office and the Korea Environment Corporation, conducted a joint inspection from February 26 to 27 to identify risks and encourage improvements.
On this day, a "Safe Chemistry on the Way to Work" campaign will be held with the participation of relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Employment and Labor, National 119 Rescue Headquarters, Jeollanam-do Province, and Yeosu City, to raise safety awareness among on-site workers. On the 26th, group training will be provided for supervisors to emphasize their authority and roles, and to share accident prevention measures during the maintenance process.
Commissioner Kim Youngwoo stated, "Through proactive inspections and systematic management, we will prevent accidents and share identified cases with similar workplaces nationwide to strengthen the safety network."
