Nowon is home to the largest number of schools in Seoul, with 155 schools (including kindergartens and special schools), and boasts educational infrastructure represented by Eunhaeng Intersection in Junggye-dong, one of Seoul's three major school districts. In addition, the district is creating a holistic creative experiential education environment that may be overlooked between public education focused on textbooks and private education, aiming to nurture innovative talents.
The district's educational projects are meticulously carried out through ▲support for diverse learning beyond textbooks (Nowon Math Culture Center, Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center) ▲support for youth future career exploration (Nowon Education Platform) ▲support for advanced academic courses (Nowon Science Gifted Education Center, Native English Camp) ▲promotion of youth-led educational communities (support for youth club activities).
First, the Nowon Math Culture Center is a representative example of an experiential education facility beyond textbooks. Established in 2019 as the first of its kind among local governments nationwide, it leads math education centered on play and hands-on experiences. It develops various programs such as exhibition hall exploration and problem-solving processes incorporating escape room game methods, and courses where math and artificial intelligence coding can be learned together. Especially last year, the exhibition space was renewed by strengthening the 'Math Play Zone.'
The Nowon Astronomy and Space Science Center, which nurtures curiosity about science through big history topics such as space, Earth, life, and human history, continues to enjoy popularity. Experiential exhibitions using visual, tactile, and auditory senses are operated permanently. Also, the planetarium (celestial projection system) and observatory help establish a broad perspective on science through 'star' experiences that are hard to encounter in Seoul.
The Nowon Education Platform, which provides customized support for complicated college admission strategies, is a facility frequented by parents. It not only offers direct help such as university-specific admission briefings and explanations of early and regular admission strategies but also operates 1:1 customized counseling and mentoring programs for self-directed learning. Reading education necessary for elementary students and their parents is also conducted, making it a space that lays the foundation for proper learning design regardless of the child's age.
Additionally, the 'Nowon Science Gifted Education Center' offers advanced courses for middle school students showing aptitude in math and science, and the 'Native English Online Learning' program provides quality native English education while reducing expensive private education costs. These programs are long-term projects that enhance academic effectiveness. In particular, the district operates the 'Nowon Children’s Native English Camp' during vacation periods to support intensive achievement.
The district is carrying out various projects through the Nowon Future Education Zone, which connects diverse educational resources, parents, and students in the region to realize an educational community based on empathy. To help students experience educational resources, the 'Creative Experience Bus' operates, and in collaboration with youth institutions, club projects such as social participation activities and mock startup markets are conducted. The i-Hu Center and local children's centers, centered on students' living areas, support unique activities such as music, horticulture, and reading through the 'Dreaming Village After-School' program. The district revealed that 92 schools participated in the Nowon Future Education Zone project last year.
