Gwangju Seo-gu Provides Incontinence Treatment Support for Seniors Aged 60 and Over
Actual Medical Expenses Covered Up to 1 Million KRW Per Year
Seo-gu District in Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 11th that it will implement a support program for urinary incontinence treatment targeting senior citizens.
The beneficiaries are residents of Seo-gu who are 60 years of age or older and have been diagnosed with urinary incontinence, specifically those who are recipients of basic livelihood security, members of the lower-income class, or single-parent families.
The scope of support includes reimbursement of out-of-pocket medical expenses for urinary incontinence treatment, such as examination fees, medication costs, physical therapy expenses, and surgery costs, up to an annual limit of 1 million KRW.
Additionally, those who receive medical treatment at the Seo-gu Public Health Center and are selected as eligible for medical device rental can use urinary incontinence prevention and treatment devices free of charge for three months under the supervision of a visiting nurse.
Seo-gu began providing treatment support for urinary incontinence patients last year after being selected for a public project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This year, the district plans to further strengthen support for patients and the management and operation of urinary incontinence medical devices by establishing a cooperative system with the health center. For more information, please contact the Care Support Team at the Seo-gu District Office.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, stated, "We will spare no effort in supporting urinary incontinence treatment, which can be a barrier to maintaining social activities, so that senior citizens can enjoy a healthy and dignified life in their later years."
