Yeosu City Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Drone Demonstration City Project'

Leading Drone Delivery and Future Mobility Industries in Island Regions

Yeosu City (Mayor Chung Kimyung) announced that it has been selected for the third consecutive year in the "K-Drone Delivery Service" category of the "2025 Drone Demonstration City Establishment Project," hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology.

With this selection, the city will expand its drone delivery services for island regions, aiming to commercialize and advance customized drone delivery services by November.

The city plans to increase the maximum weight of delivered goods from the current 5kg to 10kg, and to link the service with various public services such as patrol flights over island regions, support for health and medical administrative services, and free delivery of welfare sponsorship items.

Previously, over the past two years, the city secured 1.32 billion KRW in national and provincial funding to establish a drone center, develop flight routes, and create a delivery app, thereby building the service infrastructure.

The city set up three delivery hubs in Jinmo, Jakkum, and Gaedo areas, and established 15 delivery points in island villages and hotels/resorts in Dolsan, providing both logistics delivery to islands and reverse delivery services for local island specialties.

In particular, last year, the city successfully completed 135 drone deliveries, earning recognition as an outstanding local government for drone delivery by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Mayor Chung Kimyung stated, "We expect that drone delivery will become a part of daily life and greatly alleviate logistics inconveniences in island regions," and added, "We will also link this with the upcoming 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo to realize the vision of a future mobility city."
