Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo: "President Yoon's Release Is a Natural Outcome, a Rational Measure"
Regarding the release of President Yoon Sukyeol, who was arrested and indicted on charges of being the 'ringleader of insurrection' during the December 3 Martial Law Incident, Lee Jangwoo, the mayor of Daejeon from the People Power Party, stated on the 7th, "It is a natural outcome and a reasonable measure."
In a phone interview with Asia Economy, Mayor Lee argued, "Since the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) acted without authority, the situation was essentially null and void from the beginning."
On this day, the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Guyoun) accepted President Yoon's request for cancellation of detention. President Yoon's side filed for cancellation of detention with the Seoul Central District Court on the 4th of last month, citing illegal detention as the reason.
President Yoon's side argued that both the investigation and indictment procedures for insurrection by the CIO were conducted unlawfully, and that there was no risk of evidence destruction, insisting on President Yoon's release.
