On the 5th, Seongnam City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to build a baseball-only stadium, and decided to remodel the main stadium of Seongnam Sports Complex to create a professional baseball stadium with over 20,000 seats by the end of 2027. Commissioner Heo Gu-yeon emphasized, "The baseball-only stadium to be built in Seongnam City will provide citizens with a healthy leisure culture and mark the beginning of a new challenge to prepare for the future of Korean baseball," and added, "KBO will work together with Seongnam City for regional economic development, the continuous growth of Korean baseball, and greater leaps forward."
With this agreement, Seongnam City became the second local government in Gyeonggi Province, after Suwon, to host professional baseball games. In the long term, there are plans to attract a first-division league corporate team and develop Seongnam into a center of professional baseball.
The newly constructed baseball stadium will have excellent accessibility, being within walking distance from Moran Station on the Suin-Bundang Line and Subway Line 8, which is expected to enhance convenience for spectators. Additionally, it is anticipated to have a positive impact on the commercial areas around the stadium, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Mayor Shin stated, "As an important baseball hub in the metropolitan area and southern Gyeonggi region, we will revitalize the local economy through sports and contribute to the development of Korean professional baseball."
