EdgeFoundry "Secures World-Class Infrared Sensor Mass Production Facility Through Hanwha Intelligence Merger"
Edge Foundry announced on the 5th that it has strengthened its competitiveness in the global market by securing world-class infrared sensor mass production facilities through a merger with Hanwha Intelligence, a system semiconductor sensor specialist company.
Edge Foundry has established a state-of-the-art production facility equipped with FED-STD-209E standard 10Class (pattern shape) and 100Class environments, enabling it to independently produce more than 2,400 infrared sensors annually.
The company plans to expand its production scale to 5,000 units per year, which is expected to become a key competitive advantage to respond to the rapid increase in global market demand. With this expansion of production facilities, Edge Foundry has established a flexible production system capable of promptly responding to various industrial changes.
In particular, based on compatibility with CMOS processes, external fab utilization is possible, allowing quick response to demand changes without additional investment. Through process improvements, packaging method changes, and impurity management know-how, it is expected to secure high mass production yield and realize cost reduction.
Edge Foundry is internalizing uncooled thermal imaging sensor technology used in military and defense industries, maximizing its competitiveness in the global infrared sensor market.
Based on compatibility with existing CMOS processes, it can immediately respond to requests for multi-variety production, and by maximizing cost reduction effects through process simplification, it is expected to secure price competitiveness in the global market.
An Edge Foundry official stated, “Through this merger, we have realized the internalization of infrared sensors and laid the foundation to secure technological superiority in the global market,” adding, “We will continue to maximize competitiveness through ongoing research and development and production optimization.”
