On the 26th of last month, Governor Kim signed a memorandum of understanding at the Hyatt Hotel in San Francisco with Haenam County, Fir Hills, and Southwest Coastal Enterprise City Development Co., Ltd. regarding the establishment of the AI Supercluster Hub. The agreement covers the construction of the AI Supercluster Hub, administrative and financial support, attracting big tech companies, and site development and supply. This is regarded as a significant milestone, marking the first step for Jeollanam-do to emerge as a core hub of the global AI industry.
This project is expected to provide South Korea with a crucial opportunity to respond to the rapidly growing global AI industry and to become a leading nation in the next-generation AI infrastructure competition. In addition, a letter of intent for investment was signed with Stanford University, Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH), and Stock Farm Road (SFR) to participate in the construction of the Solaseado AI Supercluster Hub. Accordingly, Stanford University will provide the latest technological advice in the global AI and supercluster fields, while KENTECH will be responsible for research and technology development for power grid optimization.
Governor Kim also delivered a special lecture at Stanford University?a world-renowned institution that has produced numerous Nobel laureates and attracts talent from around the globe?on the topic of "Korea-US Global Innovation, Challenges and Vision for Cooperation in the AI Era," addressing students and faculty. He then visited the headquarters of Groq, an AI semiconductor manufacturing company, where he met with CEO Jonathan Ross to discuss ways to utilize AI semiconductors and requested participation in the AI Supercluster Hub project. He also explored various cooperation plans with big tech companies to vitalize the domestic technology ecosystem and investment, promising ongoing exchange.
An agreement was also reached to provide world-class educational opportunities for Korean youth and to drive regional development. On the 25th of last month, Governor Kim signed a memorandum of understanding with Redlands Christian School (RCS), a prestigious private school in California, to establish a foreign educational institution in Haenam Solaseado Enterprise City.
