Pet Dog Patrol Now Covers 10 Districts in Busan... Expanding to 3 More Districts This Year
Busan Companion Dog Patrol Expands to 250 Teams
Now Operating in 7 Districts Plus Dong-gu, Saha-gu, and Yeonje-gu
The companion dog patrol team, which has stepped up to prevent crime, is expanding throughout Busan.
The Busan Metropolitan Autonomous Police Committee (Chairman Kim Cheol-jun) announced on the 4th that this year, the Busan companion dog patrol team will be expanded to a total of 10 autonomous districts.
This patrol team is a citizen-participation type public safety policy where citizens and their companion dogs work together as neighborhood safety guardians by conducting local crime prevention patrols and facility safety inspections.
The committee started a pilot operation in October 2022 and expanded to 7 autonomous districts last year, operating 238 teams of the "Busan Companion Dog Patrol." The 7 districts are Busanjin-gu, Dongnae-gu, Nam-gu, Haeundae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Suyeong-gu, and Sasang-gu.
Through a total of 8,883 patrol activities last year, they contributed to local safety by monitoring various hazards in residential areas, including 53 reports from 112 emergency calls such as intoxicated persons and 258 reports from 120 calls such as broken railings.
They also participated in various activities such as joint patrols with police officers, volunteer crime prevention squads, and related organizations, as well as campaigns like World Drug Day and Petiquette, promoting the companion dog patrol and leading the establishment of a proper companion culture.
Based on these achievements and residents' interest, this year, three autonomous districts?Dong-gu, Saha-gu, and Yeonje-gu?will be added, and a total of 250 teams will operate across 10 autonomous districts.
New participants who are companion dog owners residing in the three newly added autonomous districts can apply by April 6. Applications can be made through the companion dog patrol website.
After the first document screening and the second practical test (checking obedience to owner commands, response to external stimuli, etc.), the final companion dog patrol teams will be selected.
To revitalize the operation of the companion dog patrol, the committee plans to provide incentives to outstanding members and systematically manage report results. Starting this year, patrol members will be trained to report safety issues in daily life using the Safe Report app.
