Trump "Tariffs on Imported Agricultural Products Starting April 2"
"American Farmers, Get Ready to Produce Agricultural Products for Domestic Sales"
U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at imposing tariffs on imported agricultural products starting from the 2nd of next month.
On the 3rd (local time), President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, which he created, beginning with "To the great farmers of America," and stated, "Get ready to start producing many agricultural products to be sold domestically in the United States."
He said, "Tariffs will be applied to external goods starting April 2nd," and added, "Enjoy."
President Trump did not specify the detailed items subject to the tariffs or whether any exceptions would apply.
Earlier, President Trump announced that reciprocal tariffs would be imposed on trade partners starting from the 2nd of next month. Reciprocal tariffs are essentially tariffs imposed by the U.S. on imported goods from abroad, considering the tariff rates and non-tariff barriers that foreign countries impose on U.S. exports. His remarks on this day may suggest that agricultural products could be included in the reciprocal tariffs to be implemented in a month.
