Lee Jae-myung Mentions Incheon Elementary Student Fire Accident: "We Must Protect People's Lives with a Social Safety Net"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned an accident on the 2nd where a fire broke out in a villa in Incheon, leaving an elementary school student who was home alone in a coma, saying, "We must protect the lives of citizens standing on the edge of life and death with a thick social safety mattress without any gaps."
On the same day, Lee posted on Facebook, "While the father was at the hospital and the mother was at work to make a living, our child who should have been protected fell through the gaps in the social safety net," introducing an article related to the fire accident.
Lee said, "Even if it was too deep to be heard well, someone must have been shouting for help," adding, "Signs of welfare crises such as multiple unpaid electricity and water bills were detected, but unfortunately, the state was still too far away from the citizens asking for help."
He stated, "It may be a small blind spot from the state's perspective, but for someone, it is the boundary between life and death," and emphasized, "To protect the vulnerable standing bare against the waves of the livelihood economy, we must put all our efforts into densely strengthening the social safety net more than ever."
