Daejeon City Holds 106th March 1st Independence Movement Anniversary Ceremony... Honoring the Sacrifice of Patriots

View original imageOn the morning of the 1st, Daejeon City held a ceremony in the main auditorium of City Hall to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, honoring the sacrifices and patriotic spirit of those who devoted themselves to Korea's independence.
More than 500 people attended the ceremony, including Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo, descendants of independence activists, veterans’ organizations, heads of major institutions, and citizens.
Students Yuk Donghu and Yuk Nayoung, great-grandchildren of independence activist Yuk Changju, who led the Manse Movement and destroyed a police substation in Okcheon, Chungbuk in 1919 and was imprisoned for five years, recited the Declaration of Independence, reaffirming the noble spirit of the March 1st Movement.
During the commemorative performance, the Taekwon Art Korea Youth Demonstration Team dynamically expressed the passionate fervor and indomitable will of the independence movement through Taekwondo, while Daejeon City ambassador and young trot singer Kim Taewoong passionately sang "My Country, Korea."
In his commemorative address, Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "The passionate cries and noble sacrifices of the March 1st Movement have shaped today's Daejeon," and pledged, "Daejeon will inherit the noble spirit of our forebears and become a proud, world-class economic city for future generations."
Prior to the event, Mayor Lee and others visited the Daejeon National Cemetery to pay tribute to the spirits of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation and independence.
