"K-Culture, Expanding Globally"
ZD Ventures Makes Pre-Seed Investment in Matari, a Premium Korean Liquor Brand
Startup investment firm ZD Ventures (ZDVC) announced on the 27th that it has made its first investment since forming its first fund, providing a pre-seed investment in the food and beverage brand Matari (MATARI). The investment amount was not disclosed.
Matari is a startup targeting the global premium market by reinterpreting Korean traditional liquor culture with a modern sensibility. Starting with a project to modernly restore the renowned liquors of noble families and royal courts found in ancient texts, it is creating a sophisticated premium food and beverage brand that showcases Korean beauty to the global market.
Matari aims to grow as a brand that offers a differentiated hospitality experience based on Korea’s traditional food culture. Its first product, the premium Korean liquor ‘MATARI 08,’ has recorded continuous sellouts since its initial launch last month.
As the influence of Korean cuisine expands in the global market, Matari plans to redefine the standards of premium Korean liquors that pair well with Korean dining, focusing on promoting Korean aesthetics and identity in the global fine dining and hotel markets.
Lee Gi-hwa, CEO of Matari, stated, “We are not simply a brand selling traditional liquor, but a brand that modernly reinterprets Korean style and beauty to create new value in the global market. Through ZD Ventures’ investment, we will build a brand structure based on Korean aesthetics and present Korean beauty to the global market as a comprehensive hospitality brand.”
