The Jeonnam Wind Power Industry Association (Chairman: Jang Chungmo, President of Jeonnam Development Corporation) and Mokpo Science University (President: Lee Hokyun) held an industry-academic cooperation agreement ceremony on the 25th to foster specialized personnel in the offshore wind power O&M (Operation & Maintenance) sector and to expand employment opportunities.
The two organizations agreed to promote cooperative programs aimed at nurturing local talent related to offshore wind power in line with the growth of the offshore wind power industry in Jeollanam-do.
The main courses of the cooperation program include basic on-site safety training for the wind power industry, basic technical education, installation and maintenance of key components (such as rotors, generators, converters, transformers, power systems, and control systems), and operation of support vessels.
Lee Hokyun, President of Mokpo Science University, stated, "As the number of offshore wind power complexes in Jeonnam continues to increase, it is urgent to foster field-oriented professionals," and added, "We will closely cooperate to create a regional development system that nurtures talent in the offshore wind O&M sector so they can find employment at local companies."
Jang Chungmo, Chairman of the Jeonnam Wind Power Industry Association, said, "With this industry-academic cooperation agreement, an active cooperation system among institutions related to offshore wind power will be established, which will contribute to the development of the local community and help Jeonnam become the center of Korea's offshore wind power industry."
Meanwhile, Mokpo Science University, the only specialized college in the southwestern region of Jeonnam, reorganized its existing Department of Electricity into the Department of Renewable Energy Electricity in 2023 and is focusing on nurturing practical, field-oriented professionals.
