National Library for Disabled Persons Announces Call for Organizations to Operate 'Reading Culture Program'
Applications Open Until March 24
140 Institutions to Be Selected
Results to Be Announced in April
The National Library for the Disabled announced on the 25th that it is calling for applications from operating institutions for the "2025 Reading Culture Program Support Project for the Disabled." Applications are accepted until March 24 from public libraries, libraries for the disabled, and special schools nationwide.
This project was established to provide various opportunities for reading and cultural enjoyment to people with disabilities, who are vulnerable to knowledge and information, by supporting reading activities tailored to different types of disabilities (visual, auditory, developmental, physical). This year, the number of supported institutions will be significantly increased compared to last year (70 institutions supported), selecting a total of 140 institutions (120 public and disabled libraries, 20 special schools). Selected institutions will receive program operation funds such as book purchase costs, instructor fees, and expenses for reading and cultural experience activities.
Since 2014, over 5,300 reading culture programs have been operated by 455 institutions nationwide. The number of participants is approximately 52,000.
Hwang Geum-sook, Director of the National Library for the Disabled, stated, "We hope this project will help spread a reading culture where people with disabilities can read and enjoy books. We will continue to provide support to promote reading culture for the disabled and fulfill our role as a national library to bridge the knowledge and information gap."
