"Resolving Overcrowding and Providing Customized Education... Gwangju Office of Education Completes Class Assignments"
Reduction in the Number of Students per Class in Elementary, Middle, and High Schools
Six New Classrooms to Be Added at Seonun Middle School
Nineteen Additional Special Education Classes Established
The Gwangju Office of Education has completed the assignment of classes for elementary, middle, high, and special schools based on annual student placement standards.
According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 26th, the average number of students per class in elementary schools decreased by 0.7 compared to the previous year, with 20.4 students in grades 1-3 and 24.7 in grades 4-6. Schools with a high number of multicultural students received relaxed standards for class assignments, and 12 separate Korean language classes were organized.
For middle schools, a total of 24 classes were added to 18 schools. To address overcrowded classes caused by the development of Seonun 2 District, six new classrooms are planned to be built at Seonun Middle School by 2027.
In high schools, the number of students per class for new students at general high schools decreased by 1.7 compared to the previous year, due to class assignments reflecting the conditions of each district and the transition of Myungjin High School to a coeducational institution. In addition, the number of students assigned to densely populated high schools in Gwangsan-gu decreased by 413.
Despite the opening of Seonye School, 19 special classes were added through classroom conversions, installation of mobile classrooms, and building expansions to address the shortage of placement facilities for special education.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "We will help students adapt to school by reducing the number of students per class and lessen the workload of teachers by narrowing educational gaps through individualized learning guidance."
