Seosan City to Promote Fishing Village New Vitality Project in Jigok, Palbong, and Daesan Areas
25 Billion KRW Invested Over Four Years
23 Projects Including Restoration of Gopado Ridge Trail
Seosan City, Chungnam Province, announced that it will implement the Fishing Village New Vitalization Project and the 4th Island Maintenance Project this year to strengthen the competitiveness of local fisheries and improve living conditions in fishing villages.
The city, which was selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Vitalization Project for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, will invest a total of 25 billion KRW in three areas?Jigok, Palbong, and Daesan?by 2027.
The Fishing Village New Vitalization Project supports the establishment of residential infrastructure and economic structures to attract population inflow into fishing villages, the creation of profit systems utilizing fishing village resources, and the development of urban-style fishing village living zones.
This year, safety reinforcement work on the pier and the construction of a joint work facility will be completed in the Ungdo Port area of Daesan-eup, while the Jigok and Palbong areas will officially begin with the announcement of the basic plan.
In the Wangsan Port area of Jigok, residential, medical, cultural, and welfare spaces will be created for returnees to fishing villages, and a work space for fishers will be established at Jungwang Port.
In the Ho 3-ri area of Palbong, the Garorim Happy Station, which will provide urban-style living services, and the 365 Rest House for returnees will be established, while in the Ho 2-ri area, the Garorim Vitality Space leisure facility is planned.
The 4th Island Maintenance Project, aimed at improving the welfare of residents in underdeveloped island regions, is being carried out on four inhabited islands with a total of 23 projects underway.
This year, the city plans to complete three projects: restoration of the ridge trail on Gopado, creation of the Ungdo coastal trail, and pavement of the Udo coastal road, while the Ungdo rural road expansion and paving project is scheduled for completion by 2027.
The premium seafood branding project, aimed at increasing fishers' income and strengthening the competitiveness of local fisheries, is being pursued with the goal of paving the way for overseas exports of local seafood such as Gamtae, Eoriguljeot, and Cheonil Salt.
The city plans to participate in international seafood exhibitions and promotional events held overseas to promote its excellent local seafood resources.
In addition, the city will promote the creation of octopus spawning and habitat areas and the release of fishery seeds to protect and cultivate local fishery resources.
