On the 25th, Jeollanam-do held an agricultural policy cooperation meeting between the Agricultural Policy Bureau and the Agricultural Research and Extension Services at the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, where they shared key agricultural policy issues such as the Advanced Agro-Industry Convergence District and smart farms, and agreed to strengthen their joint response system.
The two pillars of Jeollanam-do agriculture, the Agricultural Policy Bureau and the Agricultural Research and Extension Services, agreed to cooperate on the following initiatives: establishing an AI-based Advanced Agro-Industry Convergence District, implementing measures to prevent damage from Wanguryeong snails, fostering 10,000 young farmers, and expanding the distribution of smart farms.
On this day, a heated discussion took place regarding the strategy for creating the AI-based Advanced Agro-Industry Convergence District, which is a key initiative of the 8th popularly elected administration and an ambitious project being prepared by Jeollanam-do.
Participants agreed on the need to lead the future of Jeollanam-do agriculture by introducing a Netherlands Food Valley-type model and creating an advanced cluster that integrates AI and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies with the agro-industry.
In addition, the meeting served as a productive forum for proposing collaborative projects where the two institutions can create synergy, such as integrating and scaling up tasks in the smart farm sector that require coordination or consolidation.
The main areas of cooperation include: the establishment of a National Subtropical Crop Demonstration Center; creation of a long-grain rice cultivation complex to respond to climate change; operation of a youth rural startup town to foster young farmers; reduction of greenhouse gases in the livestock sector through the development of low-methane fermented feed for ruminants; support for crop damage investigation, verification, and cultivation technology for disease and pest management; and fostering the onion processing industry, among a total of 14 projects.
Park Hyunsik, Director of the Jeollanam-do Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Bureau, said, "A digital transformation of agriculture is urgently needed to proactively respond to the rapidly changing agricultural environment. The two institutions will become one team and join forces to lead the advancement of Jeollanam-do agriculture."
Kim Haengran, Director of the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, said, "Establishing an AI-based Advanced Agro-Industry Convergence District that leads smart agriculture technology and responds to the climate crisis is a key task to strengthen the future competitiveness of Jeollanam-do agriculture, and I will do my best to ensure its swift implementation."
