South Korea and Canada have agreed to strengthen diplomatic intelligence cooperation between the two countries to respond to various security threats amid the global complex crisis.

View original imageAccording to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 25th, Park Jang-ho, Director of the Diplomatic Intelligence Planning Bureau, held a meeting this morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building with Philip Lafortune, Director of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Intelligence Bureau, who is visiting Korea, to discuss diplomatic intelligence cooperation measures between the two countries and current international affairs.
The two directors reached a consensus that high-quality intelligence analysis obtained from various sources is essential to respond to global security threats, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The Diplomatic Intelligence Planning Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was newly established through an organizational restructuring in May last year. It has built an intelligence cooperation network with related departments of allied countries such as the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's Research and Analysis Branch, and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs Intelligence Bureau.

It collects and analyzes information shared from overseas missions and other intelligence agencies related to international issues to support the formulation and execution of foreign policy.
