One Person Still Missing After Bridge Beam Collapse During Installation
Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dongyeon Orders "Mobilize All Resources for Swift Rescue"
At 9:49 a.m. on the 25th, a collapse occurred during a beam installation operation on a highway bridge in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, resulting in 10 people falling and being buried.
The Anseong Fire Department in Gyeonggi Province held a briefing at 47-10 Dorim-ri, Ipjang-myeon, Cheonan, and provided this explanation.
The fire authorities immediately issued a level 2 emergency response, deploying 297 personnel and 99 vehicles. Of the 10 people who fell, 9 were rescued, with 2 confirmed dead. The fire department is continuing the search for the one person still buried.
Of the 10 people involved, 8 were Korean and 2 were Chinese nationals, according to reports.
The injured were transported to nearby university hospitals and other medical facilities.
The accident is believed to have occurred while moving the beam support in the downward direction without it being properly secured during the installation of the bridge deck.
Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "I have ordered the mobilization of all available resources for a swift rescue," adding, "Since this is a border area with Cheonan, we will work together to handle the aftermath of the accident perfectly."
