Yeongam County Supports Early Scrapping of Old Diesel Vehicles and Construction Equipment
Grade 5 Vehicles Using Non-Diesel Fuels Also Eligible for Support
Yeongam County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Woo Seunghee) is currently recruiting participants for the "Early Vehicle Scrappage Support Project," a government-funded program by the Ministry of Environment.
According to the county on the 25th, this support project is being implemented to reduce air pollutants such as fine dust and nitrogen oxides and to improve air quality. The county has secured a budget of 1.19 billion KRW to support the early scrappage of 411 old diesel vehicles and construction machinery.
Notably, starting this year, vehicles in Grade 5 that use fuels other than diesel are also eligible for support. For Grade 5 vehicles with a total weight of less than 3.5 tons, owners can receive 100% of the vehicle's value simply by scrapping the vehicle.
To be eligible, vehicles must have been continuously registered in Yeongam County for more than six months, have passed the vehicle inspection and be in normal operating condition, have no prior record of local government support, and have no outstanding local taxes or other public dues. Further details on eligibility can be found in the notices section of the county's official website.
Yang Dongchae, Head of the Environment and Climate Division, said, "We hope for active participation in early vehicle scrappage to protect residents' health and maintain a clean air environment."
The first application period runs until the 7th of next month and applications can be submitted via the "Comprehensive Vehicle Emissions Information System" website, by registered mail, or by visiting the Environment and Climate Division of Yeongam County or each town and township office.
