"B Mart Orders Delivered by Robots"... Baemin Launches Unmanned Robot Delivery Service
Service Begins in Parts of Gangnam from 2 PM on the 25th
Coverage to Expand to Over 1,000 Locations After May
Baedal Minjok is starting unmanned autonomous robot delivery in the Gangnam area of Seoul.
Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baemin, announced that from the 25th, they will provide Baemin B Mart robot delivery services in certain areas of Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Dilly, performing delivery tasks in the Yeoksam-dong area of Gangnam-gu, Seoul, is moving from loading products at B Mart PPC to the delivery destination. Provided by Woowa Brothers.
View original imageThe robot delivery service, introduced with Baemin's own technology, offers grocery shopping and shopping services centered around the B Mart urban distribution center (PPC) in the Gangnam area. Deliveries are made within a maximum radius of 1.5 km from the PPC to the entrances of about 300 buildings within approximately 30 minutes, with plans to expand to over 1,000 locations after May.
The robot delivery service is available anytime on weekdays from 2 PM to 9 PM. Users can select items to order through the Baemin app’s B Mart in the Gangnam Nonhyeon/Yeoksam robot delivery zone and choose robot delivery as the delivery method.
The item pickup method is also simple. When the robot loaded with the ordered items passes within 100 meters of the delivery location from the B Mart PPC, the customer receives a "soon arriving" notification via text message. When the robot arrives at the delivery location, the customer can open the robot’s storage compartment and receive the items through the product receipt page.
Baemin’s robot delivery service operates unmanned without on-site staff accompaniment. Baemin has enhanced autonomous driving performance based on years of accumulated autonomous driving data in the Gangnam Teheran-ro and Songpa Bangi-dong areas.
Baemin’s delivery robot, "Dilly," can carry up to 20 kg of goods and operates at a speed similar to a fast walking pace (1.5 m/s). With an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, it can operate normally except in severe weather conditions, and it can provide fast and safe robot delivery services even on narrow and complex side streets. Four Dilly robots will be deployed initially, and Baemin plans to add more robots according to order volume and delivery zone expansion.
Baemin has also made thorough preparations for safety during delivery operations. Dilly can quickly recognize surrounding objects and obstacles through cameras and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, which measures distance and visual detection, and is equipped with advanced safety driving algorithms to prepare for sudden collisions. For example, if a vehicle suddenly appears at high speed in an alley, the robot immediately recognizes it and stops driving, resuming only when the obstacle blocking the path disappears.
Depending on the surrounding environment, the robot delivery speed is reduced when there are many pedestrians and obstacles, and increased when there are fewer, enhancing stability and efficiency through active autonomous driving.
