in Collaboration with POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks
POSCO International is set to actively promote a project to install ramps to ensure mobility rights for mobility-vulnerable groups in collaboration with Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, and POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks.
On the 24th, POSCO International announced that it held a launch ceremony for the ‘Creating a Barrier-Free City, Gwangyang’ initiative at the Jungma Disabled Welfare Center in Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do. Key stakeholders attending the event included Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang; Jo Hyun-ok, Vice Chairperson of Gwangyang City Council; Jeong Heon-ju, Director of Jungma Disabled Welfare Center; Park Jong-il, Deputy Head of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks; and Jeong Sang-gyeong, Head of Management Support Division at POSCO International.
‘Creating a Barrier-Free City, Gwangyang’ is a project led by Gwangyang City to transform the city into a safe and accessible barrier-free environment for all citizens by promoting △ access to facilities and convenience amenities, and △ the establishment of an environment that allows free movement to desired locations without inconvenience.
POSCO International and POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks will each contribute 50 million KRW, forming a total project fund of 100 million KRW, and plan to improve facility accessibility for mobility-vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, the elderly, and children from next month through December.
Since last year, POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks has been leading the creation of a barrier-free environment in the region by installing ramps for mobility-vulnerable groups at 28 locations, including the ‘Mom’s Hand Dining Table’ project. With POSCO International, which is currently promoting a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal project in Gwangyang, joining the effort this year, the project is expected to expand.
Jeong Sang-gyeong, Head of Management Support Division at POSCO International, said, “Even a 5 cm threshold can be an insurmountable barrier for someone. This project goes beyond simple facility improvements; it is a meaningful step toward creating an inclusive city where all citizens can live equally. POSCO Group will join Gwangyang City’s efforts to build a barrier-free city and contribute to the development of the local community.”
