CU Launches 'Ssuk Cream & Kaya Jam Sandwich' for Spring Season
Dessert Sandwich Sales Jumped 46.8% Last Year
BGF Retail-operated convenience store CU announced on the 24th that it will expand its convenience store dessert category with mugwort cream and kaya jam sandwiches to welcome spring.
Dessert sandwiches are products whose sales increase significantly from March, when the floating population rises sharply due to university semesters starting and spring outings. In March last year, dessert sandwich sales increased by 28.4% compared to the previous month, driven by the overwhelming popularity of milk cream sandwiches. Looking at the year-over-year sales growth rate of CU dessert sandwiches, it rose steeply each year: 18.5% in 2022, 31.7% in 2023, and 46.8% in 2024.
CU is launching two types of unique ‘Mugwort Cream Sandwiches’ in collaboration with local popular restaurants. ‘Yeosudang,’ which CU collaborates with, is a famous dessert spot known as a must-visit on Yeosu trips, offering deep and rich-flavored mugwort ice cream and mugwort choco pies made using Yeosu’s sea breeze mugwort.
The newly released mugwort cream sandwiches use seasonal mugwort starting in March, adding mugwort cream to bread to deliver a deep and rich mugwort flavor and aroma. The Mugwort Cream Strawberry Sandwich (2,500 KRW) uses strawberries grown in famous strawberry-producing regions such as Nonsan to enhance taste and quality, while the Mugwort Cream Red Bean Sandwich (2,200 KRW) offers an exquisite harmony of the slightly bitter and sweet flavors of mugwort and red bean paste.
CU also introduces two types of ‘get Kaya Jam Sandwiches (Brown, Green; each 2,800 KRW)’ featuring kaya jam, a representative spread of Singapore. These dessert sandwiches are made with kaya jam, savory buttercream, and condensed milk, offering two versions: the Brown Kaya Jam with a sweet and rich coconut aroma and a thicker sweetness, and the Green Kaya Jam with a mild sweetness.
Along with the launch, a get coffee combo discount event has been prepared. Throughout March, customers purchasing a kaya jam sandwich and get coffee together can receive a 1,500 KRW discount. Additionally, a partnership discount event applies to all sandwich items for one month. Customers paying with NH Nonghyup Card, Lotte Card, or Naver Pay between 7 AM and 9 AM will receive a 20% discount.
