...Proactive Measures to Prevent Maritime Accidents
Kwon Oseong, Chief of the Mokpo Coast Guard (Senior Superintendent), visited the jurisdictional waters and Jindo area on the 21st to inspect the actual conditions of the security field.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard, due to the recent increase in maritime accidents caused by strong seasonal winds, high waves, and abnormal weather, the period from the 13th of this month to the 15th of next month has been designated as a "Special Maritime Safety Alert" period, and the maritime safety response system is being strengthened.

Chief Kwon boarded a patrol vessel and moved to the jurisdictional waters to inspect the safety management and security demands of multi-use vessel routes and areas where fishing vessels are concentrated. He then moved to Shwimihang in Jindo to inspect vulnerable coastal areas in the Jindo region, and during his visit to the Jindo Police Substation, he once again emphasized the importance of taking preemptive preventive measures during vulnerable hours and establishing a solid on-site rescue response posture.
Meanwhile, during this Special Maritime Safety Alert period, various policies are being implemented, including increasing the deployment of patrol vessels, strengthening monitoring during fishing vessel departures and arrivals, conducting hands-on SOS button training for fishing vessel operators with V-PASS installed, and promoting the wearing of life jackets.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "As there has been a recent increase in consecutive maritime accidents, we ask that rescue equipment be checked in advance and that the Coast Guard be promptly contacted for rescue in the event of an emergency to prevent accidents."
